under the current condition, it has become close to impossible to give a firm date of the delivery of goods. Therefore, as of today we have started to include the following clause into our order confirmations:
".... Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we will exhaust all efforts to deliver at the specified date under the current conditions. In view of the difficult predictability of further developments and effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, our order confirmation is expressly subject to a case of force majeure.
In cases of force majeure, we are released from our delivery and service obligation for the duration and to the extent of the effect of force majeure, without any liability and obligation to recourse under contract or law. Force majeure is in particular any malfunction that is not our fault, official company closure or malfunction in the supply chain or in the transport route due to and in connection with the corona pandemic. We will of course notify you of the occurrence and elimination of force majeure, provided that and as soon as we become aware of it, and make every effort to rectify the respective disruption and limit its effects as much as possible. ..."
It is our recommendation to implement the same on your side, just in case somebody comes up with the creative idea to dispute COVID-19 as Force Majeure.

WITTMANN BATTENFELD at the K 2019 WITTMANN BATTENFELD and Zeroplast at the K 2019 with injection molding process for the natural material Zeroplast free
“Circular Economy” was the motto of the K 2019 and is the largest common denominator in the cooperation between WITTMANN BATTENFELD and Zeroplast. The bio-based natural material is not only recyclable, biocompatible, free of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and chemical additives, but is also said to fulfill all the wishes and requirements of industrial customers. In addition to the criteria already mentioned, these include industrial series production by injection molding, a positive environmental balance, a bio-based barrier layer for cosmetics and foodstuffs, as well as competitiveness in pricing, processes and quality standards. The ingredients of Zeroplast free do not compete with animal feed or food production.
“We have invented the sustainable, all-purpose bio material”, says Friedrich Breidenbach (CEO and co-founder of Zeroplast) with a twinkle in his eye. The facts & figures about the joint development work really read like the program for a request concert organized by industrial customers from the cosmetics, food and toy sectors. This has been made possible by the expert knowledge of WITTMANN BATTENFELD and Buzek Plastic, Poland in injection molding and process technology, the cooperation with leading research institutions, universities and an award-winning EU Horizon 2020 project under the leadership of the Fraunhofer ISC and Fraunhofer IWKS institutes, as well as the material development carried out by Zeroplast to create Zeroplast free. Due to batch variations in natural materials, new developments in areas such as programming and process technology became necessary.
Michael Wittmann and Friedrich Breidenbach were agreed on one thing from the very beginning: “100% bio-based, zero compromise. At the K 2019, we will not present just a concept, but an almost market-ready solution. Throughout the entire development process, we have focused on meeting the requirements of our industrial customers, which is vital for application in real competitive situations. In this, we have been successful. Solutions are only sustainable if they can be brought to market in large numbers of units. Only integrated, intelligent and cost-efficient material compounds and production processes have a chance there.”
At the K 2019 WITTMANN BATTENFELD demonstrated live the production of a packaging product for the cosmetics industry made of the bio-based compound Zeroplast free, which consists of no more than 3 ingredients. On the multi-component machine model EcoPower 240/1100H/130L COMBIMOULD, cosmetic jars and lids were manufactured from this compound based entirely on natural materials, which can be recycled without losing any of its physical properties.
The jar was injection-molded by the machine’s main aggregate, while the L aggregate produced the lid in a different color. The machine was equipped with a W842 pro robot from WITTMANN, which took a round paper label made of certified cradle-to-cradle paper from a magazine and inserted it into the moving mold half for the bottom of the jar. Next, the W842 pro removed the parts from the nozzle side and passed the jars on to a W818 robot, which inserted them into a screwing station. The W842 pro brought the lids to the screwing station, where they were united with the jars and then deposited.
The preceding in-mold labeling process reduces the complexity of the materials in the packaging product. Use of the paper label ensures efficient recycling processes and thus provides recyclable and sustainable decoration of the packaging products. Michael Wittmann and Friedrich Breidenbach comment: “Sustainable solutions must not be a sacrifice. If they are worse or less attractive, they will not be accepted by the market.”
According to Streamlined Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Zeroplast free shows a significantly better environmental performance per kilogram than commonly available plastic materials in most impact categories examined. The material must be produced from renewable and mineral sources, be recyclable after use and decomposable in the event of improper disposal out of doors (littering), in order to avoid negative effects such as toxic substances or micro plastics. At its facility in Poland, Zeroplast develops and manufactures sustainable packaging solutions and compounds.

WITTMANN BATTENFELD at the K 2019 TEMIONE: a full MES solution for a single injection molding machine
The K 2019 exhibition saw WITTMANN BATTENFELD, together with its MES partner company ICE-flex, offer the plastics industry a ready-to-use and low cost single-machine MES solution called TEMIONE
MES solutions are an integral part of Industry 4.0 and have established themselves successfully in the plastics industry as information and control centers for the production monitoring and planning of injection molding machines. However, the initial hurdle for the decision to install a MES program in a company can be rather high. The reasons can include the often quite high cost for the complete package, the retrofitting of existing machines with standardized interfaces in order to communicate with the MES program, the organizational adjustment and training of company staff to make use of the system and the involvement of the internal IT department to set up the network and to adhere to the company's security requirements.
In particular, companies with a relatively low number of injection molding machines may shy away from the financial and technical challenges of installing a MES solution in their plant. And this despite the many obvious advantages such a system would generate, namely, traceability of production data, calculation of the overall equipment efficiency, display of Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) for root cause analysis of downtime, to name but a few factors.
The ready-to-use single-machine MES solution from WITTMANN BATTENFELD and partner ICE-flex, TEMIONE, has been designed to precisely avoid all of these initial hurdles:
• TEMIONE resides on a separate data server, which is pre-installed and ready-touse in the WITTMANN BATTENFELD control cabinet. No involvement of the ITdepartment is necessary.
• TEMIONE does not require any external network communication
• TEMIONE perfectly works together with the WITTMANN 4.0 router mounted in the control cabinet. Therefore, an integrated firewall optimized for the communication through standard protocols of the molding industry is immediately available.
• TEMIONE can automatically communicate with WITTMANN 4.0 auxiliary equipment.
• TEMIONE comes at a low price.
The new TEMIONE is also easily accessible on the UNILOG B8 control of WITTMANN BATTENFELD injection molding machines. The main screen of TEMIONE is the dashboard, and it gives a complete overview of the efficiency parameters.
Furthermore, TEMIONE, as well as the advanced package TEMI+ for the entire shop floor can uniquely cover both injection molding machines and WITTMANN 4.0 auxiliaries around the molding machine. Therefore, a full and complete data acquisition and evaluation of the quality parameters of all devices involved in the production of a molded part is possible. All of the data recording can be initiated directly on the UNILOG B8 control screen of WITTMANN BATTENFELD injection molding machines. The data is stored as a standard on the on-board TEMI data server and can also eventually be extended to the outside via a USB port or even with a network connection to a remote folder if preferred.
The support of WITTMANN 4.0 means that all auxiliary equipment in the molding cell automatically logs in and out of the WITTMANN 4.0 based production in a "Plug & Produce" manner. Thus, the MES solution TEMIONE/+ is always automatically informed about the composition of a work cell and can adjust the display on the screen, as well as the data storage accordingly and without user interaction. Another key advantage is the merging of error messages of all connected devices to a common error list. In addition, mold data settings including WITTMANN 4.0 equipment can be stored and retrieved. It is also possible to preview the mold data settings prior to downloading from the TEMIONE server.
And – best of all – the TEMIONE package comes at a very economical price, allowing even single requirements for data acquisition and storage in a company, e.g. for applications in the automotive, medical or pharmaceutical industry.
